Donner Lake

Donner Lake is a locals’ favorite for fishing, boating and water sports, and for picnics along its sandy shores. Surrounding this “Jewel of the Sierra” are cabins with astonishing views, just minutes from downtown Truckee. In summertime, rent paddleboards, kayaks, and sailboats. Donner boasts some of the biggest lake trout in the state. At the West End of the three-mile lake, find a park with a boat ramp, volleyball courts, tennis courts, and a snack bar. Popular winter sports are snowshoeing and cross-country skiing; especially given the area’s quick access to Sugarbowl Resort.
